Wat Arun – Temple of Dawn in Bangkok

Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, stands majestically along the Chao Phraya River with its imposing 80 meter high centrepiece tower.

Getting There

The most convenient way to get to the temple is by water taxi where the boat docks just a few steps away from the entrance. Wat Arun is just 10 minutes boat ride from the dock to Wat Pho, Bangkok’s largest and oldest temple. So, it is most advisable to group your visit to these two temples together.

The most impressive structure in the Temple of Dawn is its 80 meter high tower where the central balcony presents an ideal spot for an overall view of the Grand Palace and the Temple of Emerald Buddha. As with all the historic Wats in Thailand, the steps are high and narrow, making the climb up treacherous.

Though it is known as the Temple of Dawn, the centrepiece remains mystical in the evening!
