Trees overgrowing into temple at Ta Prohm

Ta Prohm – Mysterious Jungle Temple

Located on the eastern side of Angkor Thom lies the most enchanting temple ruin Ta Prohm, which was brought to fame (even more famous than Angkor Wat) by the block buster movie Lara Craft!

Built in the mid 12th to early 13th century by King Jayavarman VII, it was originally constructed as a Buddhist monastery dedicated to the king’s mother. Due to war and years of abandonment, the place has been taken over by the massive fig and silk-cotton trees growing around the temple compound.

Our usual advice – go against the crowd like we did and you can have the whole place all to yourself. We were in awe the moment we stepped into the compound. It is a world outside this world! The serenity which was occasionally broken by the playful parrots flying around; plus the soft hissing of the trees as the wind blew added more magic into this already atmospheric place.
